Not to spread conspiracy theories but I think that The Atlantic Editor getting added to an unsecured group chat about One single Bombing when the US hands out bombs like candy was bait. I think they wanted the Atlantic to do anything besides ignore it, so they could arrest them on charges of treason and revealing information that could put national security at risk or something.
Like It was a no win scenario if that editor did ANYTHING other than assume it was a hoax before the actual bombing confirmed it. If you tell anybody, then you’re revealing national secrets.
I feel like we’re going to be seeing a lot more stories about information getting “leaked” to journalists than those organizations getting shut down for “compromising national security” or some other bullshit. I wouldn’t be surprised if an unbiased news organization got “accidentally” sent more war plans in the future, and were immediately silenced by the government in retaliation. Does anyone else feel like it’s just such a convenient set up for team Trump, despite them looking foolish for a short time? Thank god that journalist knew what they were doing.

Okay so I feel like the reason the Trump admin kept saying the stuff shared in the Signal group chat was “not classified” was to bait Goldberg into releasing the whole thing, so then they can turn around and claim it was classified. And he has released the entire conversation (minus one small redaction). So I feel like they’re now going to use this to press charges against him for releasing “classified” information.
Also the idea that it’s Goldberg’s fault for being added at all is ridiculous. Michael Waltz said “I take full responsibility” for adding him to the group chat, and then in the very next sentence implied that him having the wrong number set to one of his contacts was Goldberg’s fault. Which is something I’d love to hear the logic and reasoning behind.

It's just a false premise. He transparently despises his base much less than the polite society he's cast as antagonist to does. There was a really eye-opening moment in the 2016 primary after he won Nevada and was thanking the groups that voted for him.
He said he loved the poorly educated, and this caught fire on the internet as a howler, a gaffe, a faux pas. Imagine feeling positively towards someone who doesn't even have a college degree! From that point on it was clear that, whether or not he deserved to win, his enemies richly deserved to lose.
I don't know where you're getting antipathy towards the common man from. Just because he's rich and if you were rich you'd hate the poor? The Apprentice was an entertainment program and the people he was firing on The Apprentice were management types that the common people would love to see taken down a peg. He wasn't firing bagboys and whatever. From where I sit it looks a lot like he's been careful to show love to the common people, as a deliberate part of his strategy. Like, remember the stunt in the 2024 campaign where he worked a McDonalds? You can find it hokey, but you can't call that "transparently despising his base".
There's a popular general-purpose nugget of life wisdom that goes like this:
It's a good idea to offer obsequious flattery to rich and powerful people. It usually works. Not because they'll think it's sincere - they probably won't, they're very used to false flattery. But they like feeling rich and powerful enough to be worth flattering.
One of the things that's given me trouble, with the whole Trump Phenomenon, is the extent to which he just obviously and transparently despises his base. Like, way more than the Democrats could ever despise them. He values nothing other than money and fame. He thinks that poor people, by his own very-rich-person standards of "poor," are losers. He has spent his entire life swanning around in urban liberal rich-and-famous-person circles, as much as he possibly could, and his entire political career seems to be an attempt to swipe back at rich and famous people who refused to count him as one of their own because he's a crass parvenu. Luxury branding is his entire thing. He married a European fashion model. He is such a caricature of a cruel, contemptuous boss that his TV catchphrase was, "You're fired."
Kamala Harris may be a smug out-of-touch coastal elitist who talks like an HR pamphlet, but for sheer naked antipathy towards the ordinary man, she's got nothing on Donald John Trump.
So. Uh. How is it that middle-American conservatives, who are famously very touchy and sensitive to slights, are so happy to embrace this guy? How is it that he's so widely, and enthusiastically, accepted as authentic?
There are popular answers to that question that get widely bruited about. I hear a lot of "Trump is what they'd be like if they had his money, and that speaks to them." Which is true in some cases, no doubt, but - (a) no, most of them definitely wouldn't be like that, most people of all stripes care more than that more about basic-level values in their own lives, and (b) values to one side, I'm quite sure that most middle-American conservatives don't despise their own folkways.
I find myself orbiting around the idea that his pandering is as obviously insincere to many of his voters as it is to me, but - they value it anyway. He is telling them something they want to hear, and they like having a politician feel compelled to say that thing. If you're already cynical about politics, you may not value a heroic champion so much as someone who makes you feel strong.
As for what it is that they want to hear, well -

fyi, Ukraine actually maintains a website with publicly available lists of their financial/material support and expenses.
anyone can also use it to donate to any specific part of Ukraine's war effort directly. in case any nations leaders recently humiliated their country globally, or something.
#ramble#cw politics#ukraine#zelensky#its a weird time in which we crowdfund war. is what i would say if we hadnt been doing that for ages. war bonds and stuff#although usually thats for your local war and home country#also obviously money is tight for pretty much all of us and theres a lot of important causes out there that need support#i trust you to make informed choices with your finances. this is just one of the options i wanted to inform about#for fairly obvious reasons#incredibly impressed by zelenskyys ability to not just say “what the fuck are you talking about” or decking one of them#holy shit the disrespect in that conversation. i wouldve punched em both AND the guy asking about suits#current events

nothing like a ceasefire where hamas violates the agreement terms (not releasing civilians as agreed) on week two just so they can force four idf soldiers kidnapped from their beds, bleeding in their pajamas, to be paraded on stage drugged and at gunpoint wearing homemade military uniforms in front of hundreds of terrorists and jeering crowds, after 476 days of barely even seeing daylight

Just staying alive is an act of defiance. So stay here dammit. Stay here to outlive all that old privileged fascist scum. We won't give them what they want.

Patron saints for US election aftermath
Below are some saints I humbly recommend to pray to as the United States faces this new and challenging era after the results of our recent election. Those that use prayer for intercession may find comfort in learning more about the saints below, and building a communication with them.
Social justice — St. Martín de Porres Poverty — St. Francis of Assisi Women — St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Immigrants — St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Racial justice — St. Katharine Drexel Ecology and environment — St. Kateri Tekakwitha (the first Indigenous American saint) Education/teachers — St. John Baptist de La Salle
If you'd like, I have included some notes and extras below —
Please if you can, take some time to learn about St. Martín de Porres! His soul is beautiful and his work was absolutely selfless as he cared for others in the face of social abuse and adversity. He really is someone to aspire to be like.
I nominate St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in this particular instance as it's difficult to pin down a definitive patron saint of women (all of my cross-references didn't produce a strong label on any one saint; many were for mothers or some other aspect attributed to womanhood, so there are many options). But St. Elizabeth was the first American-born citizen to be canonized as a saint, and in her life she started a Catholic school for girls. She is most known for founding of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Joseph’s, the first religious order in America who contributed significant humanitarian work. In the wake of the US election results, I think she is an apt choice for connecting with for intercession.
I'm a biased St. Joan D'Arc follower, but hear me out. She was the crux of saving her home country from the very literal brink of being lost to Britain in a war that spanned a century. She rallied the last skeleton crew of the remaining French monarchal power that had all but been defeated already, and helped to take their name and land back from the English. I will be continuing to pray to her regularly to help find ways to fight for our freedom and remain courageous. I encourage others to do the same if you pray to her, or would like to start.
While I wish I had a suggestion for a saint to pray to for the LGBTQIA+ community, as they are adopted through history (St. Sebastian) or are not strictly official. But there are some interesting perspectives to find online, I just couldn't find a saint I could comfortably name with my whole chest for this particular group. I was intrigued by some responses on this Quora thread on the matter in question.
As always, these are only suggestions based on my imperfect research, as I am still newly navigating my reclaimed faith. If you have other patrons to recommend, please add them in a reblog so that others may learn about them.

Guy this is fucking hilarious.
In Minnesota, whe state I live in, currently Republicans are trying to pass a billl that makes TDS, or "Trump Derangement Syndrome" a mental illness so that they can institutionalize people who don't support Trump.
This clearly shouldn't pass. But the fact it was attempted in a mostly democratic state, that is hilarious and scary.
So if it somehow does pass, I will take my ticket to the funny farm with all the other cool people.
This is quite litteraly an attempt of dictatorship.
